Fruit quality<\/h3>\n

The fruit of Verdi is attractive. The first fruits can be large and\u00a0somewhat chunky. The following fruits are long\u00a0conical and uniform. The fruit has an intense red to deep red colour and an\u00a0attractive gloss. Particularly the fruit size is good towards the second half of the season and higher fruit weights can be\u00a0expected compared to\u00a0varieties such as Clery and\u00a0Magnum. Verdi is characterised by its juicy\u00a0texture and high brix levels.\u00a0Its distinct aroma makes\u00a0Verdi well-suited for direct sales and short sales\u00a0channels. The fruits\u2019 shelf\u00a0life is good, and taste and\u00a0texture remain relatively\u00a0unaffected, although a slight\u00a0post-harvest colouring may\u00a0occur. A picking interval of two to three days is\u00a0normal and recommended to\u00a0optimise fruit quality.<\/span>

Plant growth habit<\/h3>\n

Plants of Verdi are healthy, resilient and\u00a0well-balanced. The plant architecture is open which makes the trusses clearly visible. The growth habit is compact, and the vegetative-generative balance remains optimal. The\u00a0foliage is lime green and\u00a0glossy. Flower trusses\u00a0typically have seven to eight\u00a0flowers which normally remain\u00a0under the leaf canopy. Verdi is also relatively heat tolerant and able to cope with periods of high temperatures.<\/p>\n

Cropping pattern<\/h3>\n

Upon the beginning of the harvest, production\u00a0increases rapidly. Verdi has a longer harvest window\u00a0compared to other varieties\u00a0with steady production, due\u00a0to the nice spread in the emergence of new flower trusses (Fig. 1). Therefore, fruit size stays relatively\u00a0consistent (Table 1). The steadily high fruit weight in combination\u00a0with the visibility of the\u00a0fruit trusses results in a high picking performance.<\/p>\n

Verdi starts its production when the production of Flair is decreasing. When the production of Verdi, in turn, decreases, the production Faith has commenced. Due to this relatively long harvest window, Verdi bridges the gap between Flair and Faith, resulting in an evenly distributed weekly production.<\/p>\n

Pest and disease resistance<\/h3>\n

Trials have shown that Verdi resists\u00a0infection by soil-borne\u00a0diseases such as\u00a0Phytophthora\u00a0<\/i><\/span>cactorum<\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span>and\u00a0Verticillium\u00a0<\/i>very\u00a0well. Moreover, Verdi is also tolerant against\u00a0mildew.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fertilization<\/h3>\n

Verdi is a strong variety and has proved to be very efficient\u00a0with the available nutrients\u00a0in the soil. Therefore, Verdi has a low fertilization requirement\u00a0for a successful crop. For specific fertilization\u00a0strategies, please contact us.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

An additional application of nitrogen of 25kg of pure N during the vegetative phase is sufficient to create sufficient leaf mass. Balanced\u00a0potassium: calcium<\/span>\u00a0ratio of 7:2 is recommended during flowering and harvesting, in order to achieve a successful harvest. In addition, extra attention should be paid to watering the plants evenly and as required.<\/span>
