History
Neessen is a family company that was established as a mixed farming enterprise in the early 20th century. In the more than 100 years since its establishment the company has undergone many changes. Below is a timeline featuring the most important milestones in our history, which have turned our company into what it is today.
1906
Jacobus Steeghs establishes a family-run mixed-farming enterprise with cattle, pigs, chicken and arable crops.
1942
Sjang Neessen continues the business together with Nel Steeghs, Jacobus Steeghs’s daughter.
1955
The farm starts producing asparagus.
1962
The farm starts producing strawberries.
1966
The farm starts raising asparagus plants.
1968
The farm starts propagating strawberry plants for local strawberry growers.
1975
Sjang, Peter and Herm enter into a partnership.
1977
Jan joins the Neessen Partnership.
1982
Peter, Herm and Jan Neessen continue the Neessen Partnership.
1988
The company starts raising its own strawberry planting stock in its first aphid-free greenhouse.
1992
The company stops its pig-farming activities.
1995
The company stops producing strawberries.
2007
The company stops its dairy-farming activities.
Establishment of Neessen VOF (partnership firm); Peter Sr continues the company together with his sons Johan and Peter Jr.
2009
Start of sidelines: garden plants and hydrangeas for cutting.
2010
2010 Construction of latest aphid-free greenhouse for cultivating strawberry planting stock.
